Negativvm Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are NEGATIVVM from Bielefeld, Germany and play Black Metal. We released two full-length albums called "Tronie" and "HVNGERKVNST", as well as a little live-recording. Everything we record is for free. Fuck business.
2.How would you describe the musical sound that is present on the recordings?
Also we are often associated with current developments in Black Metal because of our politics, we try not to jump on the bandwagon of Post-, Atmospheric-, Artsy-Fartsy-Bla-Bla and keep things DARKTHRONE "Plaguewielder" to "Sardonic Wrath" era. With German lyrics and a twist that comes from our different musical backgrounds, styles and abilities.
3.Can you tell us a little bit more about your song lyrics?
We seldomly write anything with meaning or message. Things rush through our heads, push us over edges or kick us in the balls. We put these in abstract and old-timey vocabulary. People feel uncomfortable.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Negativvm?
Negativity in CAPITALS.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
We have played some great shows and some meh ones in the past, like most bands I guess. I liked the show at Noctura Festival which we recorded and also enjoyed supporting ALTAR OF PLAGUES and MONARCH.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Touring is always great, but people don't seem to fancy us visiting their cities that much at the time. In addition we have families, jobs and other bands, so it's a real challenge to keep our live presence running.
7.On the live album you did an Ulver cover, what was the decision behind during a cover version of one of their songs?
"Nattens Madrigal" is one of the best Black Metal albums of all time and we felt the need to dedicate us to one of its most thrilling songs.
8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
We are negotiating with a label about the release of our past albums and maybe a third one in the future, but nothing seems fixed yet. We really hope things work out the way we intend and people will get their hands on physical copies of our records.
9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
For "Tronie" we received a surprising lot of press attention and little feedback from people. With "HVNGERKVNST" it's kinda vice-versa, all the way with lots of facebook-likes, bandcamp-purchases and all that stuff on one hand, and zero press attention on the other.
10.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
I just listened to some demo recordings of upcoming material and don't think that things will change that much with a new record. Our sound will basically stay the same with thick, monotonous guitars, hypnotic melody, primitive drumming and sore-throat vocals. Just much better.
11.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
NEGATIVVM is influenced by stuff like DARKTHRONE, old ULVER, first DODHEIMSGARD in the first place. Black Metal isn't necessarily our main focus when it comes to music to listen to at home though.
12.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
We are a bunch of boring nerds.
13.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
No. Thank you and take care.
